Obi Addresses Wharton Students On Africa’s Future, Highlights Leadership, Potential
Philadelphia, PA – Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, delivered a keynote address at the Wharton School’s African Business Forum yesterday, emphasising the continent’s untapped potential and the crucial role of young Africans in shaping its future.
Addressing over 500 students, predominantly from Nigeria, Obi spoke about the need for transformative leadership to unlock Africa’s potential, which he argued has been hampered by past failures.
He highlighted the opportunity for the current generation to rewrite this narrative and drive the urgently needed change.
The forum, celebrating over three decades of engagement with Africa, provided a platform for introspection and discussion on the continent’s future.
Obi’s participation, according to his post on X (formerly Twitter), was a privilege given Wharton’s long-standing role in fostering these critical dialogues.
Obi shared his personal journey, transitioning from the corporate world to public service, emphasizing the importance of perseverance in overcoming obstacles.
He stressed the fulfillment derived from using knowledge and experience to build a better society, advocating for grassroots engagement as a catalyst for genuine progress.
“I continue to emphasize to young Africans that our continent is brimming with potentials,” Obi stated in his X post.
He reiterated his belief that a new Nigeria, and indeed a new Africa, is possible, a sentiment that resonated strongly with the predominantly student audience at the prestigious American business school.
The event showcased Obi’s continued engagement with international forums and his ongoing commitment to promoting Africa’s development.
