AMGA 2024: Local Organising Committee Unveils Nigerian Music Icon Olamide As Brand Ambassador
The Africa Military Games, Abuja 2024 Local Organising Committee (LOC) has named renowned Nigerian music sensation and songwriter Olamide Gbenga Adedeji, alias Olamide Baddo, as the official Brand Ambassador for the highly anticipated event, which will take place at the prestigious MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja from November 18 to November 30, 2024.
While unveiling the AMGA Ambassador at a colourful event held on Tuesday at the Lagos Continental Hotel, Chairman of the AMGA 2024 LOC, Air Vice Marshal Abidemi Marquis, stated that the announcement of Olamide as AMGA2024 Brand Ambassador aligns with the LOC’s commitment to increasing the event’s visibility, particularly among young audiences across Africa.
He described Olamide as embodying the African Military Games’ spirit of resilience, creativity, and unity. “We are thrilled to welcome Olamide to the AMGA2024 family; we believe that with his influence, he will not only raise awareness about the Games but also inspire a generation of Africans to celebrate our shared values and cultural heritage,” Marquis stated.
Olamide, who is well-known for his groundbreaking contributions to African music and powerful influence on pop culture, will be instrumental in promoting the Games and inspiring Africans to support the competing athletes.
Olamide, on the other hand, expressed his excitement about the opportunity to represent AMGA2024. “It is an incredible honour to be a part of such a significant event that unites our continent through sports and shared values. I look forward to using my voice to bring people together, celebrate our athletes, and promote the powerful message of unity that AMGA 2024 represents.”
He recognised the military’s sacrifices and expressed pride in working with them as part of a larger initiative to involve the entertainment industry in creating opportunities for youth.
He recalled dedicating a song to the armed forces in 2016/2017 and expressed his desire for continued collaboration between society, the entertainment industry, and the military to create opportunities for young people.
AMGA 2024, scheduled to take place next week in Abuja, will bring together over 44 African nations and 2000 athletes, both male and female, in Abuja for an array of sporting events, including badminton, boxing, basketball, combat swimming, football, golf, judo, kickboxing, obstacle crossing, shooting, squash, table tennis, lawn tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, and wrestling, among other sporting activities, thus demonstrating how sports diplomacy can foster collaboration.
Olamide’s role will include promotional activities such as media appearances, social media campaigns, and on-the-ground activations. His involvement aims to generate widespread enthusiasm for the Games and create a long-term impact that extends beyond the event itself.
