NSCDC Mining Marshals Graduate, Assure Security For Nigeria’s Critical Infrastructure, Economic Growth
Abuja, Nigeria – The Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has assured Nigerians of the nation’s critical national assets and infrastructure (CNAI) security, highlighting its importance for economic recovery.
Speaking at the Passing out Parade of the 3rd batch of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Mining Marshals in Abuja, the Minister emphasised the significance of these highly trained personnel in safeguarding key assets.
“With the knowledge-driven skills imparted into the Mining Marshals, there is hope and a future for the nation because the protection of the CNAI is a sine qua non to the economy of any nation,” stated the Minister, represented by the Secretary, Civil Defence, Correctional Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), Ahmed Ja’afaru.
The Minister commended the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Dr Ahmed Audi, for his commitment to deploying well-trained personnel to secure the nation’s critical infrastructure.
He highlighted the positive impact of the training program on enhancing the country’s security architecture, urging the newly trained operatives to leverage their skills and discharge their duties effectively without compromise.
Honourable Minister of Solid Minerals, Dr. Dele Alake, represented by Director of Federal Mines and Steel; Engr Imam Ganiyu, emphasised the collaborative efforts between the Ministry of Interior and the Federal Mines and Steel in bringing significant change to the mining sector.
He stressed the importance of intensifying efforts to generate revenue for the Federal government and create job opportunities for young Nigerians.
NSCDC Commandant General Dr Ahmed Audi reiterated the purpose of the ‘Operation Hayakin logo‘ – the mining Marshals – in provding safety and security for the mining industry and tackling economic saboteurs. He expressed confidence in a positive turnaround for the mining sector, stating that the Corps will relentlessly combat illegal mining activities across the country.
Audi disclosed that over 300 suspects and over 200 mining sites have been recovered from illegal miners and bandits. He further affirmed his commitment to the President’s agenda of national renewal, highlighting the increased compliance with mining laws and regulations as illegal miners, industry espionage, and economic saboteurs are being suppressed.
The CG emphasized the need for continued collaboration in training and retraining, as well as the provision of sophisticated equipment for effectively policing over 1000 detected illegal mining sites across the country.
He concluded by charging the newly trained personnel to be diligent, loyal, and focused on their duty, assuring them of internal mechanisms to monitor their activities.
