NDDC Partners With First Lady To Launch U-Lesson Tablets In Niger Delta

ABUJA, NIGERIA – The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has partnered with the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) and the First Lady’s office, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to distribute 45,000 U-Lesson educational tablets to primary and secondary schools throughout the region.

The launch ceremony, held at the State House in Abuja, was attended by dignitaries such as the NDDC Chairman, Mr. Chiedu Ebie, the Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, and the NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku.

The First Lady, who founded RHI, emphasised the initiative’s innovative nature, stating that the U-Lesson software provides students with comprehensive learning resources, engaging interactive experiences, and offline video libraries that are accessible even when there is no internet connection.

The NDDC Chairman, Mr. Ebie, described the U-Lesson tablet strategy as a significant step towards transforming education in Nigeria, particularly in the Niger Delta region.

He emphasised that the initiative demonstrates the NDDC’s commitment to the region’s overall development.

Dr. Ogbuku, NDDC’s Managing Director, emphasised that the initiative is a practical demonstration of the Renewed Hope agenda.

He emphasised the U-Lesson tablets’ contribution to incorporating technology into educational processes, increasing student engagement, streamlining curriculum development, and, ultimately, improving student performance.

The programme also includes teacher training on how to effectively use the U-Lesson tablets, ensuring a smooth transition to digital learning in the region’s educational landscape.

According to Mr. Sim Shagaya, Managing Director of U-Lesson, the distribution of tablets represents the largest investment in education technology by any government agency in Africa, providing equal opportunities for students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds.

Dr. Walter Mulombo, the World Health Organisation’s country representative, praised the U-Lesson initiative as a pathway to the future.

This landmark partnership between the NDDC, RHI, and the First Lady’s office signifies a significant step towards bridging the digital divide and empowering future generations in the Niger Delta region.
