Governance and Leadership expert Dr. Donald Agumenu has boldly predicted a resounding victory for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming Ghanaian elections, drawing parallels to the recent US presidential election.

Speaking at the sidelines of the ongoing Volta regional campaign tour by NDC running mate Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, Dr. Agumenu asserted that Ghanaian voters, mirroring their US counterparts, will  “vote massively based on their personal and general economic conditions.”

He believes the “wind of change” that swept Donald Trump back into the White House will blow through Ghana, delivering a “technical knockout” to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) ticket.

“Let us embrace Sankofa and vote massively for John Mahama on the 7th of December as President of Ghana,” he urged, emphasising the importance of drawing lessons from the past.

While acknowledging the complexities surrounding Trump’s victory, Dr. Agumenu sees it as a “testament to a prevailing spirit and the sovereign will of the people.”

He extended his congratulations to Trump, expressing hope for a future of global peace and prosperity.

Dr. Agumenu, who also holds the position of Director of Special Duties for the NDC in the Volta region, expressed strong disapproval of the NPP ticket, particularly targeting Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and his running mate, Matthew Opoku Prempeh.

He contends that they lack the necessary leadership qualities and experience to guide Ghana’s future, especially in the face of pressing economic challenges.

“Bawumia and his mate Matthew Opoku Prempeh lack the level of seriousness for presidential leadership to change the fortunes of this country and reignite hope,” he declared, highlighting what he perceives as a lack of tangible results despite Bawumia’s self-proclaimed economic expertise.

Dr. Agumenu criticized Bawumia’s focus on digitalization, asserting that it has overshadowed vital economic solutions.

“It baffles me why the vice president as the leader of the government economic management team is not creating a sustainable path, even short to medium-term solutions, to curb the economic challenges we face as a people,” he stated.

He questioned the cost-effectiveness and impact of the government’s digitalization projects, arguing that they are merely “cinemas and theatrics” designed to bolster electoral support.

Dr Agumenu further emphasized the contrasting leadership styles of the two candidates, arguing that Mahama offers the necessary experience and commitment to tackle Ghana’s economic woes.

He called upon all Ghanaian voters to emulate the US electorate and cast their ballots for Mahama and Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, ensuring continuity and progress.
