Peter Obi Calls For Visionary Leadership As National Grid Collapses Again
LAGOS, NIGERIA – Labour Party presidential candidate and former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his frustration over the latest collapse of Nigeria’s national grid, an event that has become increasingly common in recent months.
Obi drew a stark contrast between Nigeria’s power situation and that of South Africa, highlighting the disparity in electricity generation and distribution despite Nigeria’s larger population and economy.
“South Africa, with a quarter of our population, celebrated seven months of uninterrupted power supply just a few days ago,” Obi wrote.
“They generate and distribute about 40,000 MW of electricity, while Nigeria struggles to generate and distribute just 10% of that.”
Obi then addressed the divisive tactics employed by some to discredit his criticisms of the government’s handling of the power crisis, stating: “When I ask if any tribe in Nigeria enjoys uninterrupted power supply like South Africa, I am labelled a tribal bigot.
“When I ask if any religion enjoys special privileges in this crisis, I am called a religious bigot.”
Despite the attempts to silence his calls for accountability, Obi remained resolute in his message: “We must set aside these primordial sentiments and elect leaders who are competent, capable, and have the vision to transform our nation from a consumer-driven economy to a productive one,” he urged.
“We need to invest in critical areas of development like health and education, lift our people out of poverty, and ensure increased electricity production and distribution.”
Obi concluded his post with his signature slogan: “A new Nigeria is POssible!”
The post has sparked widespread discussion on social media, with many Nigerians expressing their agreement with Obi’s assessment of the situation and his calls for change.
The power crisis continues to be a major concern for ordinary Nigerians, who face daily disruptions to their lives and businesses due to the lack of reliable electricity supply.
