Bayelsa Monarch Commends NDDC For Development Projects, Calls For More

Oruma, Bayelsa State – The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has received praise from King David Amakiri, the newly elevated Obanobhan of Emeyal Clan in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

During a courtesy visit by NDDC Managing Director Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, King Amakiri highlighted the positive impact of NDDC projects on his community and the region as a whole.

“Our people are anxious to see more development projects,” the monarch stated. “We have played our own role by ensuring peace in the Niger Delta region.

“Having provided a peaceful environment, there should be no excuse for not developing our region.”

King Amakiri specifically praised the NDDC for the construction of the Oruma rigid pavement road and other internal roads, which he said have greatly improved infrastructure and connectivity within his community.

He acknowledged the challenges his people faced prior to the NDDC’s interventions.

Dr. Ogbuku, accompanied by Senator Denyanbofa Dimaro, Bayelsa State representative on the NDDC Board, and other commission directors, expressed gratitude for the monarch’s support and commitment to peace.

“We recognise the importance of the traditional rulers in ensuring peace and stability in the various communities in the Niger Delta region,” stated Dr. Ogbuku.

He emphasized the need for a peaceful environment to facilitate the swift implementation of development projects.

The NDDC Managing Director also revealed that contractors have been mobilized to begin the channelisation of Kolo Creek, which connects Okarki-Otuogidi-Ogbia communities in both Rivers and Bayelsa states.

This project aims to remove blockages that cause flooding, thereby reducing the risk of cholera and other waterborne diseases.

The visit by the NDDC to King Amakiri serves as a testament to the commission’s commitment to working closely with traditional rulers and community leaders to ensure the effective delivery of development projects across the Niger Delta region.
