In a statement released on his X handle, Obi emphasised the far-reaching consequences of the ruling on the people of Rivers State, who he maintains are the true owners of the funds in question.

He highlighted the plight of pensioners, healthcare workers, teachers, civil servants, and everyday citizens struggling to make ends meet amidst existing hardship.

“This decision risks pushing them even further into distress – even into untimely deaths – by compounding the challenges they face each day,” Obi stated.

He implored all concerned parties, including the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches, to prioritize the wellbeing of the less privileged and vulnerable citizens in their decision-making processes.

Obi’s call for a reversal of the court ruling underscores the growing concern surrounding the financial crisis in Rivers State.

While acknowledging the national attention garnered by the ongoing crisis, Obi has largely refrained from commenting on state-specific issues.

However, the severity of the recent court decision, coupled with its impact on the most vulnerable citizens, prompted his intervention.

The statement concludes with a call for a “new Nigeria,” emphasising the need for leaders to prioritise the well-being of all Nigerians, particularly the poor, in order to build a brighter future for the nation.
