This historic initiative marks the beginning of the closure of IDP camps in the region, ushering in a new era for the 500 families displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency.
The sprawling estate, located in Konduga town, features essential public facilities such as schools, a primary healthcare centre, water facilities, and other amenities designed to meet the residents’ basic needs.
Aside from the physical structures, the resettlement package includes a generous support network for each family, demonstrating the state government’s commitment to a comprehensive approach to recovery.
Each household received essential items such as food supplies, blankets, mats, mattresses, rubber buckets and wrappers, ensuring their immediate well-being.
In addition, heads of households received N50,000 and housewives received N20,000, allowing them to restart their lives and rebuild their livelihoods.
The 500 resettled families come from ten communities that were devastated by the insurgency: Towuri, Modu Amsamiri, Goniri, Mairamiri, Lawanti Grema Gogobe, Bula Bowuri, Zarmari, Amusari, Bula Bakaraye, and Furi.
Their return to their homes is a powerful symbol of resilience and hope, demonstrating the state government’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of its citizens.
Governor Zulum’s commitment to the recovery effort does not end with the inauguration of the Konduga estate.
He has issued directives for the accelerated completion of 500 houses in Dalwa town within the next six months, while another 500 houses are slated for construction in Aulari town, both within Konduga Local Government Area.
Recognising the importance of education in rebuilding communities, Governor Zulum has directed the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation to immediately assess the extent of damage inflicted upon the College of Business and Administration Konduga by the insurgents.
This prompt action underlines the state government’s commitment to restoring educational infrastructure and providing opportunities for future generations.
The inauguration of the 500-house resettlement estate is a beacon of hope for the people of Konduga and a testament to the relentless efforts of the Borno State government in tackling the multifaceted challenges posed by the insurgency.
This initiative not only provides shelter but also offers the promise of a brighter future, paving the way for a sustained recovery and rebuilding process.
