Tinubu’s ‘Cleared Ways And Means Debt’ Claim, A Deliberate Lie—Lawyer
Lawyer Opatola Victor, who successfully sued the Federal Government over the Ways and Means debt, has vehemently rubbish President Tinubu’s claim that the government has cleared the debt.
Mr. Victor claims in a recent statement on X (formerly Twitter) that the government has securitised the Ways and Means debt, effectively transforming it into a national debt that Nigerians will be responsible for repaying.
This means a debt accumulated without the approval of the National Assembly, spent without proper oversight, and now imposed on the entire country.
Victor, who represented the plaintiffs in the lawsuit, claims that Tinubu’s mention of 30 trillion Naira as “cleared” in his Independence Day speech is a blatant lie that deceives the public with technical language.
Victor’s key points:
- The Ways and Means debt was not cleared, but rather securitised, resulting in a national debt.
- The Federal Government borrowed this money without the National Assembly’s approval.
- There is no transparency about how these funds were spent.
- Nigerians are now burdened with debts over which they have no control.
This revelation raises serious questions about the current administration’s transparency and accountability.
Victor urges the government to stop making false claims to the public and instead be truthful and transparent in their dealings.
This statement has sparked widespread debate and calls for a more thorough investigation into the government’s handling of the Ways and Means debt.
It remains to be seen how the government will deal with these serious allegations.
