Christian Group Condemns Exclusion From North West Commission Board
The Northern Christian Youth Professionals (NCYP) has issued a strong statement condemning the North West Commission’s recent board appointments, claiming they lack inclusivity and do not represent the region’s diverse Christian population.
The group, in a statement signed by Chairman Isaac Abrak, expressed deep concern that none of the six North West states have a Christian representative on the board.
They argue that this undermines the principles of fairness and inclusion, perpetuating a sense of marginalisation within the Christian community.
Abrak emphasises that for the commission to function effectively and achieve its objectives, it must have a board that reflects the region’s diverse demographics.
He warned that ignoring Christian representation would not only jeopardise the commission’s success, but would exacerbate religious divisions in the North West and Nigeria as a whole.
The NCYP statement directly asks President Tinubu to reconsider the appointments and make the necessary changes to ensure balanced representation on the board.
They urge the President to put unity and inclusivity first in his decision-making, emphasising the importance of taking immediate action to address the group’s concerns.
The statement asks important questions about:
• The commitment to inclusivity in government appointments: Is this exclusion indicative of a larger trend in the current administration?
• The impact on interfaith relations: Will the lack of representation further polarise communities in the region?
• Can the commission function effectively without representing the needs and perspectives of all communities in the North West?
THE NEWSHAUS learned that this development is likely to spark more discussion and debate about the need for diverse representation in key government institutions.
It remains to be seen how President Tinubu will respond to the NCYP’s concerns, and whether the commission’s board will be changed to reflect a more inclusive approach.
