How APGA Swept Anambra Local Government Elections In Landslide Victory
By Chuks Eke*
Awka, Anambra State – The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) won convincingly in Anambra State’s local government elections on September 28th, 2024, capturing all 21 chairmanship positions. The party’s decisive victory solidifies its dominance in the state’s political landscape.
Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) Chairman Genevieve Osakwe declared the elections “the fairest” and emphasised the need for meticulous results collation and analysis to ensure accuracy.
The absence of opposition candidates and party representatives at the ANSIEC office when the results were announced emphasised the magnitude of the APGA’s victory. Notably, despite its resounding victory, the APGA was not challenged by any opposition party.
Osakwe praised the people of Anambra State for actively participating in the democratic process, as well as the security agencies for maintaining peace and order during the election. She stated, “This is to confirm the results of the chairmanship and councillor elections held on September 28, 2024.
The commission meticulously compiled and analysed the findings to ensure that there were no errors. On September 28, elections were held in all polling units across Anambra State, and they were free, fair, and credible.
The APGA candidates with the most votes cast in each of the 21 local government areas were declared winners and re-elected.
This decisive victory by the APGA in the local government elections represents a strong endorsement of the party’s policies and leadership in the state.
It also establishes the groundwork for continued political dominance in the state ahead of future elections.
