APGA Cruises To Victory In Anambra LG Polls Amidst Boycott By Other Parties
From Chuks Eke in Onitsha*
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) appears to be on track for victory in Anambra State’s ongoing Local Government chairmanship and councillorship elections, despite a boycott by other political parties.
While voting started late in most polling stations across the state due to delays in the arrival of Anambra State Independent Electoral Commissioner (ANSIEC) adhoc staff and materials, APGA members were the primary participants, indicating a clear boycott by other parties. Several parties are currently contesting the validity of the polls in various courts.
Despite the boycott, APGA’s embattled National Chairman, Sly Ezeokenwa, fulfilled his civic duty by voting at polling unit 007, Otumoye, Fegge Ward 4, Onitsha South LGA.
Ezeokenwa, accompanied by his mother, Lady Emilia Ezeokenwa, expressed his satisfaction with voter turnout and praised the election’s peaceful and orderly conduct.
He emphasised that the smooth process reflects the maturity of the democratic system and Ndi Anambra’s dedication to credible local governance.
“The turnout is encouraging, and I am pleased with the calm and orderly manner of the process,” Ezeokenwa said.
“This election is critical to strengthening grassroots leadership and advancing community development.”
Similarly, Mrs Amaka Obi, APGA’s Chairmanship candidate for Idemili South Local Government Area, praised the election’s peaceful nature and expressed confidence in her victory, citing her performance as the current Chairman of the Local Government Transition Committee.
Chief Stanley Nkwoka, the APGA’s Chairmanship candidate for Idemili North Local Government Area, who voted at Ilo-Amalacha polling unit 005 at Ogbu Primary School in Abatete, praised the peaceful voting process.
He confirmed reports of material shortages in some areas but emphasised that Supervising Polling Officers promptly addressed the problem.
Mr. Chukwuemeka Akunna, the APGA Councillorship candidate for Abatete Ward, praised the peaceful process after voting at his polling unit 012 in Iluo-Udu, at Ogbu Primary School. He thanked the electorate for their peaceful participation.
While other parties’ boycotts cast doubt on the legitimacy of the election, the APGA appears to be on track for a landslide victory, with its members actively participating and expressing confidence in a peaceful and orderly process.
