President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has chosen to focus on domestic issues, including the devastating flood disaster in Borno State, over attending the 79th UN General Assembly in New York.

This decision, according to The Democratic Front (TDF), highlights the President’s understanding of the people’s needs and his commitment to addressing them.

The TDF, in a statement signed by Chairman Mallam Danjuma Muhammad and Secretary Chief Wale Adedayo, lauded the President’s choice, emphasizing that it prioritizes national political expediency.

“This remarkable show of responsive leadership demonstrates the President’s dedication to the people of Nigeria,” the statement reads.

“We recall that Mr. President was away in China and the United Kingdom when two major issues shook the nation – fuel pricing and the Borno State humanitarian disaster.”

Despite his international engagements, the TDF expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s commitment to his people, highlighting his swift response to the flood disaster.

Upon receiving news of the devastation, he immediately contacted Vice President Kashim Shettima and Governor Umara Zulum for updates and dispatched over 50 trucks of food items, medicine, and other relief materials to the affected region.

President Tinubu also directed the military and emergency management agencies to work together in rescuing flood victims and ensuring the delivery of aid.

His return to Nigeria from a foreign trip to personally visit the flood-stricken areas was hailed as a testament to his dedication and commitment to addressing the people’s needs.

The TDF noted that the President’s actions have attracted significant sympathy and aid from both within and outside Nigeria, with over N17 billion Naira in donations from the private sector and $6 million from the United Nations.

“History will remember President Tinubu as the first Nigerian leader to delegate his Vice President to lead the Nigerian delegation to the United Nations General Assembly to allow him to deal with pressing local issues,” the statement concludes.
