Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun, has urged President Bola Tinubu to act quickly and save the people from further hardship.

Oyintiloye, a former lawmaker, stated that the suffering that Nigerians are currently experiencing requires the President to act quickly and implement strategies that will provide immediate relief.

The APC Chieftain, speaking with reporters on Sunday in Osogbo, expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s ability to alleviate the masses’ suffering, but suggested that strategies that would provide immediate relief should be implemented.

Oyintiloye, a member of the defunct APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), also noted the economic hardship the masses were currently experiencing as a result of the increase in pump prices, which has led to an increase in food prices, as well as an increase in electricity tariffs, the cost of cooking gas and other factors that have made life unbearable for Nigerians.

He stated that the recent increase in the pump price has exacerbated the hardship that Nigerians are facing, adding that “Nigerians are hopeful that the country will see a positive turn around, but measures to achieve this must be accelerated.”

“There is no doubt that the president is doing everything humanly possible to alleviate the suffering of the people, but a faster approach is required.

“The president should remove any bureaucratic bottlenecks that are impeding the swift implementation of policies that will put smiles on the faces of the masses.”

“The economic suffering that the masses are currently experiencing is becoming unbearable, and the president must act quickly.”

Oyintiloye urged the president to address the delay in implementing the suspension of customs duties and taxes on imported food items, which was announced two months ago.

The former lawmaker also stated that because the initiative was described as part of measures to combat rising food inflation across the country, there should be no delay in its implementation.

Oyintiloye recalled that on August 7, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, assured that the policy would commence the following week once the guidelines were ready. However, the policy has yet to be implemented.

He stated, “There is no doubt that the president is passionate about bringing smiles to the masses’ faces, but those in charge of putting these policies into action should not be viewed as roadblocks.

The president directed the Nigeria Customs Services to implement a 150-day duty-free window for maize, husked brown rice, and wheat imports. However, this has yet to be implemented after nearly two months.

“That is not good enough. The president cannot be everywhere, so his foot soldiers must be proactive in taking action to achieve the president’s goals.

“People are angry and hungry. And that is why all measures to improve this situation should be implemented as soon as possible.”

He urged those in charge of developing the policy’s guidelines to take action, noting that if the initiative is implemented, food prices will plummet without affecting domestic production.

He urged Nigerians to continue supporting the President, stating that while all of the policies being implemented now may appear painful, they will reap significant benefits in the long run.
