Anambra State police have launched a manhunt for the assassins who attacked Sir Dan Igbokwubili, the Chief Security Officer of the Obosi community in Idemili North Local Government Area of the state, a few days ago.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed this to reporters over the phone, said the command had received the incident report and was working to find the perpetrators.

Igbokwubili was shot multiple times by suspected assassins who then set fire to his private vehicle. He narrowly escaped death.

Igbokwubili, an ex-police officer appointed as CSO by Obosi’s traditional ruler, Igwe Chidubem Iweka (Eze Iweka III), and his cabinet members were ambushed by assassins on the road while driving home.

According to the source, the assassins set up an ambush along the road, and as Igbokwubili approached his home, they opened fire on his vehicle, spraying it with bullets while he fell and pretended to die.

As he regained consciousness, the source continued, he took to his heels and was pursued by one of the assassins, but as a trained police officer, he retreated and kicked the assassin with his leg, hitting him in the penis, and when the assassin slumped, he barely escaped and was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

Commenting on the incident, Igwe Iweka, who spoke with reporters over the phone, expressed regret that the attack occurred at a time when the community was celebrating its independence from cultists, assassins, and kidnappers.

He recalled giving Igbokwubili a special award at the last Ito Ogbo cultural festival in May of this year for his outstanding achievements in crime fighting in Obosi Kingdom since his appointment as CSO.

Igwe Iweka, on the other hand, warned that the Obosi community would not stand by and watch hoodlums have a field day, despite the fact that efforts are still being made to find the perpetrators.

Also reacting to the incident over the phone, Igbokwubili stated: “Hired assassins blocked me on the road near my house, but to the glory of God, I escaped death. They fired a lot at me and eventually burned down my jeep. Please join me in thanking God for his mercy upon me.”
