Nigerian Government To Complete Ongoing Dam Projects Nationwide

The Federal Government has assured that all ongoing dam projects across the country will be completed to increase irrigation farming and achieve food security.

Professor Joseph Utsev, Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, made this statement in Ile-Ife, Osun State, on the second day of his tour of water projects in the South West region.

The minister explained that he led a team of Technical Directors from his ministry to assess the progress of the Ile-Ife Dam project in Ife East Local Government Area of Osun State, allowing the Federal Government to take the necessary actions by providing everything needed for its timely completion.

He assured the people of Ile-Ife that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is committed to making food available and affordable to all Nigerians, creating job opportunities for the teeming youth, and launching people-oriented programmes and policies to improve citizens’ living conditions.

Earlier, Engr. Ali Dallah, Director of Dams and Reservoirs in the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation informed the Minister that the Ile-Ife Dam project, which is 45% complete and 660 meters long, has a water storage capacity of 18 million cubic metres.

According to Dallah, the Dam can supply water to 250 hectares of land for irrigation farming and consumption while also generating 4.5 megawatts of electricity for the Ife community.

Mr. Sunday Olufemi, Commissioner for Water Resources in Osun State, thanked the Minister for leading his management team to the project site, stating that it was a clear demonstration of the government’s commitment to the welfare of its citizens.

He assured the Minister that he would provide the necessary support to ensure that the project was completed on time and served its intended purpose.

Mr Adebayo Akinola, the community Head of Kajola Obalere, thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his determination to complete the project for the benefit of the people of Ile-Ife.
