Nigerian Government’s New Health Policy, A Turning Point For The Sector—Group
Tinubu Media Volunteers (TMV) believes that the newly implemented National Health Policy will address Nigerians’ long-standing concerns about healthcare delivery while also reversing the brain drain syndrome in the health sector.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Chukwudi Enekwechi, and Secretary, Sunday Shedrach Gyungoun, the TVM stated that the new national policy
is an affirmation of President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s readiness to completely transform the sector.
The TVM recalled that before the new policy, Nigeria’s health sector faced numerous challenges, the most notable of which was the proclivity of the country’s health professionals, including doctors and nurses, to seek greener pastures abroad.
“But with the comprehensive new policy thrust, in which several incentives have been rolled out, we do not doubt it will, in large part, serve as a watershed moment in bringing about positive change in the sector.
“We note that some of the new measures that will enhance the envisaged transformation, such as improved working conditions for health practitioners and advanced health technology equipment, will help boost health tourism and encourage Nigerian health professionals to stay and work in the country.
“The new policy, which aims to integrate advanced health technologies, will include electronic medical records (EMR), telehealth services, and a comprehensive health workforce registry. This, we believe, will contribute to a more efficient and data-driven healthcare system.
“The federal government also has a broad plan for building capacity in Nigeria’s health sector, encouraging diaspora return and facilitating reciprocal agreements with other countries, while ensuring that the country’s interests are fully protected.”
“We believe that the new policy is far-reaching and, if well implemented, will have a tremendous impact on Nigerians’ lives, as health professionals will play a critical role in achieving the Tinubu administration’s renewed hope agenda.
“Another important aspect of the policy is the regular review of health workers’ working conditions, especially in rural and underserved areas.”
According to the group, the policy will go a long way towards ensuring that the country provides a safe environment for health workers.
