Douye Diri Pre-Season Tournament: Bayelsa United, Insurance Of Benin Battle For Top Prize

The Governor Douye Diri Pre-season Football Tournament will conclude in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State, with Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, serving as Special Guest of Honour.

After one week of entertaining football involving seven of the country’s biggest teams and a home-based team, four teams remain to compete for third, second, and first place.

On Sunday, August 18th, the Samson Siasia Sports Complex will be illuminated with exciting moments as Akwa United faces Kwara United in the third place match at 2pm, and Bayelsa United faces Insurance of Benin in the grand finale at 4pm.

According to Mr Ono Akpe, Chairman of the Central Organising Committee of the Governor Douye Diri Pre-season Football Tournament, the state has been agog with exciting football, which was organised to help teams prepare for the upcoming Nigerian Professional Football League season, which is set to begin in a few weeks.

Mr Akpe praised the teams for their professional conduct thus far, as well as the synergy and unity demonstrated by the Yenagoa clubs.

According to the statement, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the Deputy Governor, will be the Special Guest of Honour, Barrister Porbeni Ogun, Chairman of the Bayelsa Football Association, will be the Guest of Honour, Hon. Daniel Igali, Commissioner for Sports Development, will be the Host, and Dr Peter Singabele, former Medical Committee member of the Confederation of African Football, CAF, will be the Chairman of the occasion.

Other attendees at the games include Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Hon Tare Porri, Member Representing Kolokuma Opokuma Constituency 2, Hon. Wisdom Fafi, and other members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly.

All government appointees, sports stakeholders, sports writers, and Bayelsans in general are expected to attend. The week-long event was organised by Governor Douye Diri’s Bayelsa State Prosperity Government to prepare the rejuvenated Bayelsa United under new coach Ladan Bosso.
