NDDC Funds, Not For Political Campaigns, Says Management
The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has confirmed that it is aware of reports circulating in the online media alleging that the Commission is diverting funds intended for contractors to fund the Edo All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship campaign.
In a statement signed by Seledi Thompson-Wakama, Director of Corporate Affairs, the Commission stated that nothing could be further from the truth. As a result, we are forced to respond to the false narrative about an alleged diversion of NDDC funds. Surprisingly, the story was attributed to unknown sources from the rumour mill.
To clarify, the NDDC does not support political parties or candidates running in elections at any level of government. Our mandate is to accelerate the development of the Niger Delta region.
The NDDC’s Board and Management are more determined than ever to uphold its mantra of “Making a Difference” in the lives of the people of the Niger Delta region.
We urge the public to disregard the false stories spread by mischief-makers in an attempt to derail the various innovations being implemented by the NDDC Board and Management, led by Chairman Mr. Chiedu Ebie and Managing Director Dr Samuel Ogbuku.
We are fully aware of the growing need to appear more accountable to the public and to conduct our business more transparently.
Responding to this reality, we hired KPMG, a well-known global business consultancy, to review and strengthen our corporate governance system, as well as improve our internal processes and institutional protocols. They have assisted us in establishing a new institutional culture based on strong ethics and good corporate governance.
As part of this control mechanism, we recently met with members of the NDDC Advisory Committee, which is comprised of governors from the nine Niger Delta states and is statutorily empowered to advise and monitor the Commission’s activities.
We are committed to working with all of our stakeholders to drive President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. To achieve this goal, we are working with development partners, including the state governments of the Niger Delta region, to “build a region that is socially stable, economically prosperous, ecologically regenerative, and politically peaceful.”
We assure our stakeholders and members of the public that the NDDC Board and Management will not be distracted from their commitment to doing things differently and making a difference in the Niger Delta region.
