Poverty: Delta Enjoying Peace, Progress In Difficult Times, Says Gov Oborevwori

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, said Sunday that despite not borrowing during his one-year tenure, the state was experiencing peace and progress.

Governor Oborevwori stated this on Sunday during the 8th Delta State House of Assembly’s first anniversary thanksgiving service, which was held at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Region 34 Headquarters, Unity Model Parish in Asaba.

He stated that despite the country’s economic difficulties, the state is making impressive progress in infrastructure and human capital development and that no money has been borrowed to fund projects.

Governor Oborevwori stated, “God has been faithful in the affairs of the state, as people who live outside of this state have no idea what we are enjoying, which is peace and progress.

“There is also abundance; for us to be in these difficult times in Nigeria, Delta State has not borrowed in the past year.

“You can see that members of the State House of Assembly are shining, and I have told them that whatever other states are doing that we are not, we will do for them because they are excellent partners in the state’s administration.”

He urged House members to continue serving the people in the fear of God, saying that God will continue to bless the state and make it one of the best in Nigeria.

In his remarks, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, stated that the Assembly was thanking God for His infinite mercy on all members of the State House of Assembly, as well as for the first anniversary of the 8th Assembly, which was inaugurated on June 13, 2023.

Guwor stated that the 8th Assembly is unique in that one of its own and a former presiding officer of the House serves as Governor.

He stated, “Governor Oborevwori understands perfectly the workings of the State House of Assembly, so we have enjoyed a strong partnership with the Executive.

“My colleagues respect the House’s leadership, and there has been a great deal of cooperation among members, for which I am grateful.”

The Speaker praised Deltans for choosing the best from the state to represent them in the 8th Assembly, noting that “we received 18 bills, both executive and private member bills, of which nine have been passed and three assented to already.”

He praised Deltans for their trust in the House and promised not to let them down.

In a sermon, Pastor Olufemi Olumide, Region 34 Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Asaba, stated that thanksgiving is the key to unlocking all doors and praised the 8th House of Assembly for thanking God.

Pastor Olumide stated that the 8th Assembly was unique because it marked a new beginning in the affairs of the State legislature, and that the occasion provided an opportunity for Christ to be at the centre of the State’s affairs.

The thanksgiving service was attended by the Governor’s wife, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, the immediate past Deputy Governor, Deacon Kingsley Otuaro, the State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Kingsley Esiso, Hon Thomas Ereyitomi, and Hon Nnamdi Ezechi of the House of Representatives.

Others include State Chief Judge Hon. Justice Theresa Diai, High Chief Tunde Smooth, MD of Tantita Security Services, Chief Keston Pondi, the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, and Chairman of the Delta State Traditional Rulers Council, HRM Maj-Gen Felix Mujakperuo Orhue I, among others.
