Obi Says ‘Obedient’ Movement Not Affiliated With Any Political Party
Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, has stated that the Obidient Movement operates independently and is not affiliated with any political party.
On his official Facebook page, he stated, “I would like to categorically state that the Obedient Movement is not a directorate of any political party.” Any individual or individuals claiming to be leaders of this non-existent directorate are simply not part of the larger Obedient Movement.”
Addressing the misconceptions, Obi stated that, while political parties may have youth mobilisation directorates, the scope of the Obedient Movement is far greater than that of any single party. “The Obedient Movement is a diverse and inclusive group that goes beyond traditional political, religious, and ethnic affiliations,” he stated.
Obi emphasised that the movement is not limited to any specific geographic area in Nigeria. Instead, it has a large membership base in Africa and around the world, attracting people from all walks of life, including rural communities as well as public, private, and corporate organisations. Members are guided by the principles of adaptive and transformative change, progress, discipline, and democratic values, which unite them in their vision for a better Nigeria. The movement strongly promotes fairness, equity, inclusivity, and justice.
He also emphasised the movement’s commitment to a government that is fully accountable and responsible. “Our members are committed to contributing to the realisation of a better future for Nigeria through the New Nigeria project, which is founded on loyalty, integrity, and democratic values,” Obi said.
According to Obi, the Obedient Movement seeks to promote positive change through integrity, honesty, and accountability, while strongly opposing deceptive behaviour. “We serve as a beacon of hope for a reimagined Nigeria, where leadership is founded on character, capacity, competence, compassion, and the well-being of all citizens,” he stated.
Obi emphasised that the Obedient Movement operates independently of any political party and that membership is not limited to any specific affiliation. “Our focus is still on driving positive change and promoting a New Nigeria for all. He affirmed, “This is who we are and will always be.”
