He made the remarks on Saturday when the NDDC paid a visit to the Sangana community in Bayelsa State’s Brass Local Government Area to assess the damage caused by the recent ocean surge that devastated the area.

The head of the NDDC stated that the president had directed immediate intervention in the ecological disaster, which is described as one of the region’s worst environmental problems.

Ogbuku, accompanied by relevant commission officials, including the Director of the Project, Victor Antai, donated relief materials to those displaced by the ocean surge in the Sangana community.

He stated that Tinubu was pleased with the people of the community because of its economic importance and the long-term peace that has created an enabling environment for oil exploration and exploitation activities.

He told the residents of the community that he was overjoyed with the presidential directive, which demonstrated that the country has a very responsible president who is concerned about the welfare of his people.

Ogbuku stated, “Before your letter of appeal arrived at our head office in Port Harcourt, the ocean surge in Sagana had already been publicised in the media. The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria saw it and directed that we come and see what was happening in Sagana and provide feedback.

“My presence in your community, aside from being a son of the soil, is in response to Mr. President’s directive, and after witnessing firsthand the devastation in your community, we will proceed immediately to see how we can salvage the situation.”

While urging the people of Sagana to maintain peace to attract development, he stated that development could only occur in a peaceful community and assured them that the NDDC would use the best modern technology to combat the area’s erosion scourge.

He urged multinational oil companies operating in the area to work together to address the perennial ocean surge in the surrounding communities, stating that the NDDC would not do so alone.

Ogbuku added, “We previously awarded the contract for shore protection in your community, but we are going to review it. The whole idea behind NDDC is to look into new technology, such as the Geotube system. The system can also be used to naturally rebuild and reclaim land.

“After determining the situation on the ground, we will go back and put the papers together, as well as see how we can collaborate with the state government and the International Oil Companies (IOCs) to ensure that we all work together to protect our communities.”

The chairman of the Sangana Council of Traditional Rulers, King Moses Theophilus Kenibara VII, Amadabo of Moko-Ama Sangana, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his love for the Sangana community.
