Finidi George Launches Super Eagles Job On Winning Note

Coach Finidi George puts himself in the running for the Super Eagles coaching position. On Friday, the Super Eagles played their first of two friendlies in Marrakech, Morocco, where they defeated the 10-man Ghana Black Stars 2-1.

In the 28th minute, Cyriel Dessers scores from the spot to put the Super Eagles ahead. In the 84th minute, Ade-mola Lookman doubles Nigeria’s lead, and in the fifth minute of added time, Jordan Ayew scores from the spot to cut the margin.

Nigeria will play Mali on Tuesday also at the same venue in their last friendly games before the 2026 World Cup qualifying games against South Africa at home on June 02, 2024, and Benin Republic away days later. The Black Stars will also play Ugan-da’s Cranes in Morocco in their second friendly game.

Ghanaian Jerome Opoku was shown a straight red for dangerous play in the 56th minute to give the Super Eagles a one-man advantage which the Nigerian made use of to put pressure on the Ghanaians before they capitulated in the 84th minute.

The Super Eagles, with only two points from a possible six in their first two matches, will host South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in Uyo before playing the Cheetahs of Benin Republic away in the Matchday 3 and 4 games respectively.
