The Minister stated that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu began with strong support for Nigerian football and that we cannot afford to let him down.

Earlier in his remarks, Dr. Ibrahim Muza Gusau, President of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), stated that Finidi George’s appointment marked a new dawn in Nigerian football history. He stated that his appointment was in response to Nigerians’ desire for an indigenous coach to lead the Super Eagles.

He explained that in response to this desire, the federation directed the technical team in charge of selecting the coach to look inwards and choose an indigenous coach for the national team.
Now that the coach has been chosen, he has asked all Nigerians to help him succeed in his new role, especially with the World Cup and AFCON qualifiers approaching.

He assured that as a matter of policy, the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) gave Finidi George complete freedom in selecting his technical staff.

In his response, Finidi George, the newly appointed Super Eagles coach, thanked the Nigeria Football Federation and Nigerians for his appointment.
He promised to give his all in the task of taking Nigerian football to the next level.
Former Nigerian internationals Daniel Amokachi (Assistant Coach), Olatunji Baruwa (Goalkeeper Trainer), Chima Onyeka (Fitness Trainer), and Benjamin James were also announced as part of the technical team.
