Adunni Ade Debunks Denigrating Yoruba Language
Adunni Ade, a Nollywood actress, has clarified an interview she gave to Channels TV that appeared to criticise the Yoruba language.
In an Instagram post, Ade also accused the site Omalians Crib of manipulating the story to benefit its page. Noting that such misrepresentations are why she avoids interviews, the video showed the actress claiming that speaking Yoruba is exhausting and that most Nigerians speak English, so let’s leave other languages alone.
The actress responded, saying, “A few minutes of your time to watch would have cleared this. Is this what you got from the video you uploaded? Why modify the narrative? “Why cut the clip for your page?”I never said that speaking Yoruba gets on my nerves. I mentioned that people who ask me random questions (most of the time angrily) irritate me. If you’ve ever met me and speak Yoruba, you’ll know that I prefer to interact with you in Yoruba.
But while in a given gathering, I like to keep professional and speak in the country’s first language. “One thing I have always avoided mentioning publicly is that many of you despise me for no apparent reason.
Many of you have a problem with my existence, good or bad.”Please be aware that I am not dragging anyone’s status, title, culture, nationality, or language. I’m simply going through life trying to be the greatest person and mother I can be for my children.
