Gov Otti Commends Super Eagles For Making Nigeria Proud At Afcon 2023
Dr. Alex Otti, Governor of Abia State, has praised Nigeria’s Super Eagles for representing the country with pride at the recently concluded African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023.
According to Kazie Uko, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Otti stated that while the Super Eagles fell short of lifting the trophy, the players gave it their all and contributed to the nation’s image as a formidable force in African football.
Cote d’Ivoire rallied from behind to defeat Nigeria 2-1 in the biennial competition’s final, which took place on Sunday at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire’s capital.

He specifically congratulated Samuel Chukwueze, Kenneth Omeruo, and Frank Ogochukwu Onyeka, three Abia State sons who made the Super Eagles team for AFCON 2023.
The Governor praised Chukwueze for assisting the team captain, Troost Ekong, who scored Nigeria’s first goal with a header shortly before the halftime break.
Governor Otti thanked Nigerians for their overwhelming support for the Super Eagles throughout the competition, and he also praised the team’s technical staff and the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) for their efforts in getting Nigeria to the AFCON finals.
After qualifying from the group stage, the Nigeria Super Eagles defeated the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the round of 16, the Antelopes of Angola in the quarterfinals, and the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in the semi-finals before losing to the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire in the final.
