Plateau Guber Election: PDP Heads To Supreme Court, Says Frightening Pattern By Appeal Panel Constitutes Danger
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reacted to the appeal court verdict, which sacked the Plateau state governor, Caleb Mutfwang.
The party, which faulted the Appeal Court verdict, said that the frightening pattern by the Plateau Appeal Court Panel constitutes a clear and present danger to the democratic process.
Speaking to newsmen on the development, the PDP spokesman, Hon. Debo Ologunagba said that the party had forewarned several times about the antics of the Court of Appeal with regards to electoral cases from Plateau State.
Ologunagba added that the party had not been properly briefed on the judgment of the lawyers.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary assured that the PDP will make an appropriate reaction soon, adding that it still has a right of appeal at the Supreme Court.
He recalled that besides statements issued by the party expressing concern over the Appeal court, the party national chairman, Amb Illiya Damagum also warned against the judiciary being hijacked by the APC cabal.
He said the party had sensed ulterior motives following the conflicting judgments by the court in the state’s National Assembly elections.
Recall that in one of such press conferences, Ologunagba called for the disbandment of the Plateau State Election Appeal Court Panel over varying and conflicting judgments.
He noted that the court is “undermining democracy and the expressed will of the people of Plateau State.”
He said: “This frightening pattern by the Plateau Appeal Court Panel constitutes a clear and present danger to our democratic process, national peace, and stability; a bad precedent for judicial mischief and particularly a recipe for anarchy, chaos, and breakdown of Law and Order in already tensed Plateau State.
“In the light of the foregoing, the PDP, in line with the aspiration and expectation of the people of Plateau State demands as follows;
“That the President of the Court of Appeal immediately disbands the Plateau State Election Appeal Court Panel.
“That a new Plateau State Election Appeal Court Panel be constituted to hear the remaining Appeals as the current panel has shown manifest bias to unduly favour the APC candidates. The continued retention of the present Plateau State Election Appeal Court Panel will be construed by the people of Plateau State as an act of insensitivity and injustice.
“That the manifestly biased and inconsistent judgments of the Plateau State Election Appeal Court Panel already delivered in the Appeals be subjected to judicial review.”
