Hardship Not Excuse To Indulge In Criminality, Says Eze Iweka Of Obosi
By Chuks Eke
His Majesty, Eze Chidubem Iweka (Eze Iweka III), the traditional ruler of the Obosi community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra state, has encouraged his followers to avoid robbery, abduction, cultism, ritual killings, obtaining by false pretense, OBT, and other types of criminality.
He stated that while practically everyone is now suffering through difficult times, not only in Obosi but throughout the country, this is no excuse to engage in any type of wrongdoing.
Igwe Iweka insisted yesterday during this year’s annual Obiora cultural festival of the Obosi Ukwala kingdom hosted at his palace that offenders are always captured in the end, whether by the long hands of the law or the strong hands of God.
“Avoid cultism, robbery, kidnapping, hard drugs, 419, and other crimes,” the monarch advises. Nemesis will find you sooner or later. Find additional feasible legal ways to make money, no matter how small. It is time for our Obosi young men to follow in the footsteps of their Igbo counterparts by learning trades, abilities, and engaging in various business activities.”
On the issue of terrorism in Igboland which he described as imported, Igwe Iweka called on Igbo stakeholders, billionaires, and tink-tanks to urgently convene a consultative assembly in conjunction with state governments, traditional rulers, and town union leaders to devise effective modalities to rescue Igbo land from the clutches of imported terrorists and ransom kidnappers.
He praised some illustrious Obosi sons for not only sponsoring but also attending this year’s festival, including Chief Chiedu Uyammadu (Odogwu Obosi), Chief G.C. Osakwe (Odu Nkata Ukwu), Chief Mike Ajegbo (Ede Obosi), and others for their invaluable contributions to the development of Obosi town.
In his speech, Chimezie Obi, President-General of Obosi Development Union, ODU, revealed that the town union, under his guidance, has created a method of invading criminal hideouts on a regular basis in order to eliminate criminals from the region.
Obi revealed that during the most recent incidence of such a raid, approximately eight suspected criminals were captured in the hideout with their lethal weapons and turned over to police for comprehensive investigations and probable prosecution.
“We will no longer fold our hands and watch criminals overrun this community as they did in the past, to the extent of assassinating the past President-General of ODU, Chief Ikechukwu Okolo just because he was trying to fight them to a standstill”, added Obi.
