Sack ACTDA MD For Allowing Thugs Attack GUO Driver, Residents Tell Soludo
Onlookers captured thugs attached to the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) in a video beating a driver of GUO Transport Company for overtaking his long convoy on the federal highway at the Unizik junction Awka.
Eyewitnesses who saw the bus driver’s helplessness as he was beaten like a thief on the orders of their principal described the said brazen abuse of citizens’ fundamental rights by government officials, as captured in the video where the thugs unleashed terror and mayhem on the GUO Driver, as despotic and dictatorial.
Eyewitnesses who witnessed the GUO Driver’s brutality and mindless molestation maintained that such behavior was unbecoming of a government official and that such characters should be flushed out of the system on grounds of executive rascality and abuse of office, even as citizens called for the arrest of the ACTDA boss, Mr. Ossy Onuko, and his daredevil thugs.
Eyewitnesses maintained that assuming without conceding that the GUO Driver committed a traffic offense, it was not enough grounds for thugs to beat him like a common criminal.
According to one of the eyewitnesses, Mr. Paschal Candle, the GUO driver was driving from Lagos to Enugu and when he arrived in Awka, he overtook an ACTDA convoy led by Ossy Onuko.
He claimed that the thugs chased him and that the GUO bus stopped to dump some passengers when he didn’t realize the convoy was carrying some thugs.
He stated that as he was dropping off passengers at the Unizik junction in Awka, thugs acting on the orders of the ACTDA leader descended on him and brutally beat him.
As if the assault wasn’t enough, he claimed that the driver was bundled and carried away to the ACTDA office, leaving the passengers he had brought from Lagos stranded at Unizik intersection Awka.
Paschal Candle, on the other hand, urged the state’s Human Rights Organizations, the Commissioner of Police, and the State Director of the DSS to apprehend the perpetrators, whom they described as overzealous persons who go around assaulting innocent citizens and subjecting them to unnecessary torture.
It will be noted that locals in Agulu Anaocha Local Government Area protested the assassination of an Agulu indigene by Soludo’s revenue touts and that a similar occurrence occurred in Onitsha.
Meanwhile, Anambra State Governor’s Press Secretary, Mr. Christian Aburime, has made a counter-statement, claiming that the ACTDA chairman, Mr. Ossy Onuko, did not direct thugs to assault the GUO bus driver.
The press release goes on to say, “The Anambra State Government, under the humane leadership of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering a society characterised by civility, decorum, and mutual respect for human rights.”
