Nigeria, 7 Other Africans Secure Pot 1 In ’26 World Cup Qualifier
FIFA reports that the Super Eagles of Nigeria won pot 1 for the African draws before the 2026 World Cup qualifying rounds.
The three countries—Canada, Mexico, and the United States—will co-host the 2026 World Cup.
Senegal, Tunisia, Morocco, Cameroon, Algeria, Egypt, and Mali are all included in Pot 1 together with Nigeria.
The Super Eagles were given the top seed for the World Cup qualifying competition after the latest FIFA rankings, which were revealed on Thursday, placed them as the sixth-best team in Africa and 39th overall.
The draw for the group will take place on July 12, 2023.
The nations will be divided into nine groups of six teams, with the group winners earning a spot in the World Cup.
The Eagles will hope to avoid a repeat of last year after they failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup hosted in Qatar
