2023: Group Alleges Plans By Katsina Govt To Use Nigerien Currency For Elections
A political Pressure Group in Katsina State, Atiku/Lado Integrity Forum has alleged that the state government has concluded plans to execute the coming general elections with the procurement of the Nigerien currency (The Cefa).
Alhaji Lawal Audi-Yar’Adua, popularly known as Lawal Dan-Ade, the Secretary of the forum made the allegation while briefing newsmen in Katsina on Monday.
According to Audi-Yar’adua, the President deserves commendation for the effort been made to stop money politics, adding that Buhari should come and rescue his home state Katsina from the monstrous plans by the government to use sefa in buying votes.
“This issue is beyond my imagination, hence the call to the president to rescue the state because he is an honest person, he is not oppressed and does not connive to oppress anyone”.
“Especially on issues related to election. Because of that, I see that it is necessary for me to report the government of Katsina over this grand plan to involve in financial misappropriation of the state lean resources”.
“Recently, the state government through the local government and Chieftaincy affairs ministry, arranged to use over N6.4 billion in ensuring that they win the election”.
“I am telling you that it’s a true statement. What they are planning to do with the money is to purchase 500,000 pieces of textiles materials to be used during the election”, he alleged.
Lawal Dan-Ade added that the state government was also planning to buy 500,000 5kg of rice to be distributed to voters and another 68 trucks of assorted fertilizer all in an effort to win the coming general elections.
He explained that because the president has supported the CBN policy, they are further planning to remove N1.6 billion to change it into the Nigerien currency to be used for the election.
He therefore called on the President to look into the issue, and also the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate and prosecute anyone found involved.
Àl-Amin, the DG New Media, while reacting to the purported allegations, said “government will not respond to such issues”.
