He maintained that it has become imperative for the nation to conduct another national census due to the longevity of the period of the previous census, stating that there is a need for a population census to produce a new set of demographic and social-economic data that will provide the basis for national planning and sustainable development.

According to Okowa, the “2023 census should be devoid of politics. It should reflect the true data of the entire populace as geo-fenced by the commission. This is the only way the country can get vital information to address the current economic quagmire.

We must all resolve that this duty should be satisfactorily carried out. We should therefore resolve to divorce politics from census and consider it as a purely statistical exercise that will provide veritable data and tools for planning and sustainable development.”
