Abia 2023: Prof Ikonne Promises To Embark On Massive Turnaround Of Abia If Elected Governor
The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State for the 2023 general elections, Prof Uchenna Ikonne, has given the indication of a massive turnaround of the state if elected governor of the state in 2023.
The PDP hopeful, therefore, assured the people of the state of a new era of socioeconomic growth where every resident will have unrestrained access to medical facilities, employment or skill acquisition, agricultural implements for enhanced farming etc and opined that their votes will be a vote for a better life for all Abians.
In an exclusive interview with the Daily Independent in Umuahia on Thursday, Ikonne who is the immediate past Vice Chancellor of the Abia State University (ABSU), said he would also focus on human capital development as well as the eradication of poverty in this “God’s State”.
The frontline governorship aspirant acknowledged the fact that many Nigerians including Abia residents are currently suffering untold hardship as a result of the general economic downturn and vowed to dwell more on ensuring that the people’s welfare is enhanced.
“I have a well-packaged programme for pensioners. Under my watch, as chief executive, they will be paid their pensions and gratuities as at and when due. I’ll carry them along.
“Under my watch, money will circulate even in the rural areas. And I’ll ensure that every Abia resident is carried along in governance. I’ll fight to reduce poverty because I’m aware of the suffering of the people as a result of the current economic downturn.
“Their basic needs will be taken care of because that is the only way to make life meaningful for the mass. I’m coming out to serve and I’ll hold the people in trust and as a servant leader, they will be part of governance”, he told our Correspondent in Umuahia.
The PDP candidate outlined the various measures he will adopt to make the state an Eldorado if elected governor in 2023 and asked the people of the state to give him their massive support to actualise and bring his blueprint to fruition.
