Student Smashes Pestle On Her Stepmother’s Head In Katsina
Najib Shehu, a 200-level student of Federal University, Dustin-ma in Katsina State, is in the police net for killing his stepmother Asiya Mohammed, after smashing a pestle on her head.
The incident reportedly happened when Shehu, his father and Mohammed were at home when an argument ensued between the undergraduate and his stepmother.
In the course of the argument, Shehu was said to have gone into their kitchen to fetch a pestle, which he smashed on Mohammed’s head.
He was also reported to have attacked his father with the pestle. However, while Shehu’s father was recuperating in a hospital, the suspect’s stepmother was confirmed dead at a nearby hospital she was rushed to.
Telling his side of the story in police custody, Shehu said it was the deceased that attempted to attack him first with the pestle.
His words: “My name is Najib Shehu. I am 25-year-old and a 200-level student of Education Management, Federal University, Dutsin-ma. I have been having issues with my stepmother but on that Thursday, I had just observed prayers and returned to our house.
“My father was in the sitting room when my stepmother entered holding a pestle and started threatening me with it. She raised the pestle up to hit my head but I defended it. Then, she wanted to hit my leg but I jumped up, dodged it and it hit my father’s leg as he was coming to intervene.
“Again, my stepmother raised the pestle up and wanted to hit my head with it but I pushed her, and in the process, the pestle hit her head and caused her to fall down and die.”
Displaying the pestle that smashed Mohammed’s head, Katsina State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Gambo Isah described the incident as a case of murder.
Isah, however, stated that investigations are ongoing, after which the suspect would be arraigned in court.
