relevant Committees to work with the security agencies and report back in six weeks for further legislative action.
These resolutions followed the adoption of a motion of urgent importance on the need to look into cases of unresolved kidnappings and insecurity in the South-East brought by Hon Chris Azubogu (APC, Anambra).
The House noted with grave concern that there have been a lot of cases of missing persons in the South-East, particularly in Anambra State.
“…the kidnap of one Mr. Obiora Agbasimalo, the candidate of Labour Party for the Anambra governorship election. Agbasimalo was kidnapped on September 18, 2021 in Anambra State.
“… Five engineers working with Melan Consultants in Ebonyi State were also kidnapped since November 3, 2021 and nothing has also been heard about them till date.
“These, with numerous other unresolved cases, have created a heightened sense of insecurity in the South-East,” the motion stated.
It therefore expressed concerned that till date nothing has been heard about most of these cases.
“… these persons have families and loved ones who are already broken and left in perpetual agony.”
It therefore worried that “if nothing tangible is done to provide hope for these families, “we might end up losing them too.”
