Jonathan, Adeleye, Others Speak At LAPO Dev. Forum
The Lift Above Poverty Organisation (LAPO), in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Health, is set to host the 28th edition of the Annual LAPO Development Forum on Tuesday, October 26, 2021.
The event with the theme ‘Promoting Community-Based Cancer Control Programme in Nigeria: The LAPO-C4 Initiative’ will be hosted at the Yar’Adua International Conference Centre, Abuja under the distinguished chairmanship of His Excellency, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR.
Other dignitaries confirmed to speak at the Annual Development Forum include the Honourable Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, former Edo State Deputy Governor and Chief of Staff to the President, Chief Mike Oghiadomhe, the Chief Executive Officer of LAPO, Dr Godwin Ehigiamusoe while Prof Omokhoa Adeleye, Professor of Public Health and Community Medicine at the University of Benin will deliver the keynote lecture.
Stakeholders expected at the event include government functionaries, policymakers, political and religious leaders, Academia, Civil Society Organizations, Professional institutions, Development Partners and health practitioners.
LAPO Executive Director, Dr Honestus Ayo Obadiora said the forum would “address the challenges inhibiting Community-Based Cancer Control Programme in Nigeria and come up with practicable initiatives expected to ensure access to quality cancer prevention and treatment services in rural communities, as well as harness national strategies and policies for effective cancer control in Nigeria.”
Initiated in 1994, the Annual LAPO Development Forum has become a faculty of development in its own right. The annual conferencing has over the year’s stimulating discourse on the development agenda in Nigeria and Africa with very realistic solutions canvassed by guest lecturers and conferees.
The discourse has previously played host to distinguished personalities and top government functionaries including Gen. Yakubu Gowon, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former CBN Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo and Hon. Justice Samson Uwaifo JSC (Rtd).
