NSCDC Arrests 124 Oil Bunkerers, Impounds 284,540 Litres Petroleum Products In Ondo
No fewer than 124 oil theft suspects were arrested and 284,540 litres of petroleum products were impounded by men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC) in Ondo State.
Disclosing this on Friday in Akure, the state capital, the state Commandant, Dr. Hammed Abodunrin said the suspects were arrested by men in the Intelligence and Investigation Department in the year 2021.
He revealed that a total of 1725 cases were handled by the formation last year, which include malicious destruction of farmland, robbery, illegal mining, rape among others.
The commandant revealed that 20 of the 124 cases of the intelligence and investigation department were still pending in court.
Disclosing the efforts of the formation in stemming crimes through sensitization, Dr. Abodunrin said “We went to public schools and trained 200 teachers, 2000 students on personal security and protection.
“We also trained 150 staffers of Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin. We are going intensify enlightenment on the prevention of crimes. My only challenge is the unconsciousness of our people security.”
The commandant disclosed that the formation has trained some female squads to protect schools.
He said: “In the just-concluded year, a Special Female Squad was tactically trained to respond to school protection in the State and Rapid Response Squad to tackle crimes promptly. With the inauguration of a Cybercrime Forensic ICT Training Centre in the Command, crime can be solved in record time.”
