Tansian University Breaks Ground On New Law Faculty, Announces Convocation Details
Tansian University, Umunya, marked its 13th convocation ceremonies with a significant step towards expanding its academic infrastructure.
A foundation stone laying ceremony was held for a new Faculty of Law building, estimated to cost millions of naira.
Rev. Fr. Dr. Edwin Obiora, Chancellor of the University and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, presided over the ceremony, expressing confidence that the ultra-modern law facility would be completed in one year, “by the special Grace of God.”
He urged parents, guardians, philanthropists, and education enthusiasts to generously contribute to the project’s success.
Following the ceremony, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Eugene Nwadialor announced that 414 students would be graduating.
This includes 380 undergraduates and 34 postgraduates. He highlighted the graduating class’s academic achievements, stating that three students will receive First Class honours, 136 will graduate with Second Class Upper Division, 237 with Second Class Lower Division, and four with Third Class honours.
The postgraduate cohort consists of three diploma recipients and 31 Master’s degree holders from various departments.
“Tansian University’s commitment to improving the educational experience through innovative teaching, research, and capacity-building initiatives aims to empower graduates to become employers of labour and foster an improved academic environment for both teaching staff and students,” Prof. Nwadialor said.
The convocation ceremony will also include the conferral of honorary degrees on prominent individuals such as Chief Sylvester Okonkwo, Chief of Staff to Senate President Godswill Akpabio; Igwe Alex Onyido, the Traditional Ruler of Ogidi; and Hon. Pius Okoye, Deputy Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly.
To demonstrate its commitment to academic excellence, the university will offer automatic employment to First Class graduates and award prizes for outstanding performance in various faculties and departments.
Aside from the graduation ceremony, the university intends to hold a public lecture on artificial intelligence and participate in a variety of projects, such as tree planting, foundation laying, commissioning, and naming new projects.
These activities are part of a larger initiative led by Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, a former House of Representatives member, to raise N5 billion for infrastructure improvements.
