Angolan Man Caught Ingesting 120 Cocaine Wraps At Kano Airport

A 42-year-old Angolan businessman, Mbala Dajou Abuba, has been arrested at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) for attempting to smuggle a substantial quantity of cocaine to Istanbul, Turkey.

NDLEA operatives apprehended Abuba last Tuesday as he prepared to board an Egypt Air flight.

According to NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi, a body scan revealed Abuba had ingested the illicit substance.

Subsequently, under observation, he excreted 120 pellets of cocaine, weighing a total of 1.829 kilograms over seven separate occasions.

Abuba, a resident of Zaire province in Angola, admitted to previously working in delivery services before turning to drug trafficking.

This arrest is one of several significant drug busts reported by the NDLEA across Nigeria this past week. In a separate incident at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, auto spare parts dealer Okeke Igwe was apprehended for attempting to ship 1.1 kilograms of cocaine concealed in vehicle propellers to Angola.

Other notable seizures include:

  • Imo State: Ezechi Cyprian was arrested for attempting to transport 5.4 kilograms of cocaine to Owerri.
  • Lagos (Tincan Seaport): 63.75 kilograms of Canadian Loud cannabis were discovered concealed in a Toyota Venza imported from Canada. The consignee, 44-year-old Bamidele Joseph, is in custody.
  • Delta State: Over 50,000 kilograms of cannabis were destroyed across a 20-hectare farm, resulting in five arrests. Separately, 1,111 kilograms of skunk were seized from a Mercedes Benz truck.
  • Edo State: Over 100 jumbo bags of skunk, totaling 1,409.5 kilograms, were destroyed in a raid, leading to two arrests.
    Oyo State: 58.5 kilograms of skunk were seized, resulting in one arrest.
  • Kwara State: A Beninoise national, Lawali Mohammed, was arrested with a large quantity of tramadol and diazepam.
  • Osun State: 1.05 kilograms of skunk concealed in detergent soap and biscuit cartons were seized.
  • Zamfara State: 24,700 tramadol pills were seized, leading to one arrest.
  • Borno State: 31 kilograms of skunk, 1,000 tramadol pills, and N720,000 cash were seized, resulting in one arrest. Another arrest yielded 73.5 kilograms of cannabis.

NDLEA Chairman/CEO Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd) praised the agency’s efforts in combating drug trafficking and abuse across the country, highlighting both supply reduction and demand reduction strategies.

The agency continues its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization campaigns nationwide.
