Peter Obi’s Wife Empowers 300 Agulu Women With N100,000 Each

Mrs. Margaret Peter-Obi, wife of Peter Obi, distributed ₦100,000 cheques to 300 indigent women in Agulu, totalling ₦30 million.

Agulu, Anambra State – Mrs. Margaret Peter-Obi, wife of former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, demonstrated heartfelt philanthropy by awarding N100,000 grants to 300 women from Agulu town.

The initiative, which selected 15 women from each of Agulu’s 20 villages, was praised as a timely intervention in light of the country’s current economic hardship.

The event, held in Agulu, was marked by joy as the recipients received their cheques. Mrs. Obi expressed her hope that the funds would reach those in greatest need, describing the gesture as a small way of identifying with her people and offering solidarity during these difficult times.

She urged the women to reinvest the money in their small-scale trading businesses, emphasising the value of hard work and faith in overcoming adversity.

Barr. Emily Enemuoh, Chairperson of Udoka Micro Finance Bank, who attended the event with Barr. Olive Obi, praised Mrs. Obi’s generosity and advised the recipients to use the funds wisely and conduct their businesses ethically.

The event received high praise from community leaders. Mr. Oliver Afamefuna, President-General of Agulu, praised the Obis for their unwavering commitment to their community, emphasising their continued support despite their national and international prominence.

Chief Paulinus Anagboso, the Onowu of Agulu and former President-General, echoed this sentiment, citing the Obis’ extensive history of empowerment initiatives in the town, including the provision of vehicles, tricycles (Keke), and motorcycles, as well as the fact that over 70% of their community support, including scholarships for indigent students over the last 40 years, has been conducted privately.

Mrs. Margaret Ejike, the Woman Leader, thanked the Obis for their generosity and encouraged the beneficiaries to make good use of the funds.

The impact of the initiative was palpable. Mrs. Ann Agwubike, a beneficiary from Obe Village, described the grant as a lifeline, stating that it would prevent many struggling businesses from failing after the Christmas season depleted their trading capital.

She expressed deep gratitude, stating that the assistance had “literally resurrected” some people.
