Obi Visits Abuja IDP Camp, Meets With Obasanjo On New Year’s Day
Abuja/Lagos, Nigeria – January 2, 2025 – Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, began his new year with a series of engagements focused on humanitarian aid and political consultation.
Obi announced on X (formerly Twitter) that he spent the morning of January 1st visiting an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Durumi, Abuja.
Arriving at 7:30 a.m following a New Year’s Eve crossover vigil and early mass, Obi spent time with the camp residents, offering financial support and pledging further assistance.
“Their resilience in the face of adversity is inspiring and highlights the urgent need for more inclusive policies to address the challenges faced by internally displaced persons,” Obi wrote.
He emphasised the importance of implementing practical solutions to improve the lives and restore the dignity of those affected by displacement.
Later in the day, Obi travelled to Lagos to visit former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The visit, Obi stated, was to extend New Year’s greetings and discuss matters of national importance.
He expressed his appreciation for Obasanjo’s “fatherly words of advice and kind guidance,” praising the former president’s continued contribution to national development and wishing him and his family well.
Obi concluded his post with his signature campaign slogan, “A New Nigeria is POssible.”
Obi’s actions have been interpreted by many as a continued engagement in national affairs, despite his loss in the 2023 presidential election.
His visit to the IDP camp underscores his commitment to humanitarian causes, while his meeting with Obasanjo suggests an ongoing role in national political discourse.
