NDDC Provides New Accommodation For Corps Members In Bayelsa
The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has significantly boosted the welfare of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in Bayelsa State with the commissioning and handover of a fully furnished 10-room Corps Members’ Lodge in Ammasoma, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.
The official handover ceremony took place recently in Ammasoma, marking a key step in the NDDC’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and community development.
Speaking at the event, NDDC Managing Director, Dr Samuel Ogbuku, was represented by the NDDC Bayelsa Director, Engr. Godknows Alamieyeseigha emphasised the importance of providing decent accommodation for corps members to facilitate their effective service delivery within their host communities.
He stated that this project aligns with the NDDC’s vision of improving the lives of residents in the Niger Delta region.
“This project is part of our commitment to supporting the NYSC and ensuring that corps members have a comfortable and secure environment to serve in,” Engr. Alamieyeseigha stated on behalf of the Managing Director.
“We plan to replicate similar projects in other communities across the state and urge the corps members to be law-abiding citizens and take good care of the facility.”
The Bayelsa State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs. Obiageli Okpalifo, expressed deep appreciation to the NDDC for their investment in the welfare of corps members.
She highlighted the positive impact the new lodge would have on morale and service delivery.
While thanking the NDDC for the significant contribution, Mrs. Okpalifo also appealed to the Commission for the construction of a solar-powered water borehole at the NYSC Orientation Camp and for enhanced security at the Corps Members’ Lodge.
She conveyed the appreciation of the NYSC Director, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, to the NDDC management and assured them of proper maintenance of the facility.
Furthermore, the State Coordinator commended the host community for providing a peaceful environment that was conducive to the project’s completion.
She implored the traditional ruler, youth leaders, and the Police to ensure maximum security for both the lodge and the corps members residing there.
Echoing the sentiments of gratitude, the Traditional Ruler of Ammasoma Kingdom, Chief Akedesuo Goodwill, thanked the NDDC for the completed project and urged the corps members to diligently maintain the facilities provided.
The new Corps Members’ Lodge is expected to provide a comfortable and secure living environment for corps members serving in Ammasoma, thereby enhancing their ability to effectively serve their host community.
The NDDC, under the leadership of Dr Samuel Ogbuku, continues to demonstrate its commitment to fostering development and supporting crucial programs like the NYSC within the Niger Delta region, according to a press statement by Seledi Thompson-Wakama, Director of Corporate Affairs.
