New Controller Of Corrections Assumes Office In Enugu, Calls For Rededication To Duty
Mr. Valin Obizue has officially assumed the role of Controller of Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), for Enugu State, succeeding Assistant Controller General (ACG) Prisca Oku, who has been promoted and deployed as the new Zonal Coordinator of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Zone M, Enugu. The handover ceremony took place on Thursday in Enugu.
In his inaugural address, Controller Obizue urged all personnel within the Enugu State Command to rededicate themselves to their duties and strive for optimal delivery of the NCoS mandates.
Recognising his prior experience working with many of the staff in various offices, departments, and commands within the state, he expressed confidence in their discipline and competence.
“I have worked with most of you before now, and I know you are disciplined and most of you know the job and what to do at every moment,” Obizue stated. “We will work together in harmony and make the command a positive reference point.”
He further pledged to uphold the standards and legacies established by his predecessors, emphasizing his commitment to the continuous improvement of the Command.
As Commander of the NCoS Enugu State Command, Obizue aims to foster a collaborative environment where personnel can thrive and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the correctional service.
Outgoing ACG Prisca Oku reflected on her four months in charge, highlighting the positive impact on inmate welfare and health. She noted the command’s success in engaging the Enugu State Government in enrolling inmates into the state’s Universal Healthcare Coverage program, among other welfare initiatives.
“I will urge the personnel to extend the same cooperation given to me to the new controller and ensure that the rating of the command continues to be high,” Oku said, expressing her gratitude to the staff for their support during her tenure.
The handover ceremony was marked by the signing of official handling and taking over notes, the symbolic handing over of the command flag, and an inspection of offices and departments at the Command headquarters in Enugu.
