Peter Obi’s Camp Disowns Impostor Claiming To Be His Aide
The political circle surrounding former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, has issued a warning regarding a recent case of impersonation, distancing itself from Mr. Ifeanyi Aniagor, who falsely claims to be a former aide.
Mr. Obi neither knows him nor has he ever employed him in any capacity. Apparently, Aniagor occasionally displays a photograph taken with Mr. Obi as purported evidence of association.
The public is urged to be wary of such tactics, as impostors often seek to take opportunistic photos with Mr. Obi only to later misuse them as instruments of deception.
In a strongly worded statement released by Obi’s Media Adviser, Mr. Valentine Obienyem, the former presidential candidate’s team denounced Aniagor’s recurring claims as false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to exploit Mr. Obi’s name for credibility.
“It has come to our attention that one Mr. Ifeanyi Aniagor has been claiming to have served as an aide to Mr. Peter Obi. We want to state categorically that this individual is unknown to us and has never been employed by Mr. Obi in any capacity,” Obienyem stated.
He explained that this clarification was necessary to prevent the recurrence of a troubling trend: unscrupulous individuals invoking Mr. Obi’s name to commit fraud or obtain undue favours.
“Over the years, we have encountered cases where people use Mr. Obi’s name to commit all sorts of crimes, seek appointments, believing that mentioning his name will automatically grant them credibility. We will not allow such practices to continue unchecked,” Obienyem said.
The statement serves as both a disclaimer and a warning to the public, reiterating that Mr. Obi has always maintained a transparent and accountable style of leadership and will never shield anyone caught abusing his name.
“Let it be clear that Mr. Obi’s political circle will always expose impostors and protect the integrity of his name, which remains one of his greatest assets in public life,” he added.
Reacting personally, Mr. Obi reaffirmed his zero-tolerance stance on impersonation: “My name must never be a tool for fraud or deceit.
” I have worked to earn the trust of Nigerians, and I will continue to protect that trust with integrity. Anyone seeking to exploit my name for personal gain should know that the truth will inevitably be revealed.”
The camp urged the public to exercise caution and verify any claims of association with Mr. Obi before engaging with individuals, emphasising that anyone dealing with impersonators does so entirely at their own risk.
