Nigeria Govt’s N4.2bn Research Grant For Universities A Game-Changer —- TMV

The Tinubu Media Volunteers (TMV) has hailed the Nigerian government’s approval of N4.2 billion in grants to support university research projects as timely and aligned with the academic community’s long-standing demands.

In a statement signed by Chairman Chukwudi Enekwechi and Secretary Segun Ogedengbe, the TMV noted that university professors and researchers have long advocated for financial grants to facilitate research that would drive economic and social development.

“We acknowledge that these grants will support 158 research projects under the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) National Research Fund’s 2024 grant cycle,” the statement read.

Beneficiary institutions include the Federal University of Technology, Minna; Ahmadu Bello University; the Federal University of Technology, Akure; the Federal University of Technology, Owerri; and the University of Ilorin.

“We view this intervention as evidence of the Tinubu administration’s significant investment in education,” the TMV stated.

“Furthermore, we can see how savings from the fuel subsidy removal are being utilized. The Tinubu administration is demonstrating a commitment to education by prioritising the welfare of university professors and personnel, thereby encouraging them to contribute their best to society.”

“We commend the federal government for responding to the universities’ researchers’ repeated calls for grant support for their projects.”

The group expressed optimism that the grants will motivate recipients to enhance their efforts in improving society.
