TSF Applauds Presidential Initiative In Gombe Livestock Sector
The Tinubu Stakeholders Forum (TSF) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his strategic intervention in Nigeria’s livestock sector, which includes the recent release of N60 billion to Gombe State for the establishment of a cutting-edge Agro-Livestock Industrial Zone.
The project, which represents a significant step forward in Nigeria’s agricultural development, is part of the federal government’s larger efforts to transform the country’s agribusiness landscape.
During the groundbreaking ceremony in Gombe, Governor Inuwa Yahaya revealed that the Federal Government has committed N120 billion to the project, with N60 billion already released to begin the first phase of implementation.
The initiative seeks to establish Gombe as a regional hub for modern livestock processing and agro-industrial activities.
In a statement issued by its Chairman, Ahmad Sajoh, and Secretary, Danjuma Sada, the TSF emphasised that this intervention demonstrates President Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to transforming Nigeria’s agricultural value chain and promoting rural industrialisation, which is consistent with the core objectives of his Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Forum described the N60 billion investment as more than just a financial commitment, but also as a strategic move to secure Nigeria’s future in the agro-livestock sector..
The Agro-Livestock Industrial Zone will include cutting-edge facilities such as an ultramodern abattoir, international livestock market, fattening hubs, tannery and leather factory, grain and livestock feed markets, and an inland dry port to facilitate local and international connectivity for processed products.
When completed, the facility is expected to process 500 bulls, 1,000 small ruminants, and 3,000 poultry birds per day, establishing Gombe as a major livestock processing hub in Nigeria and West Africa.
The development is expected to significantly reduce farmer-herder conflicts, reduce post-harvest losses, modernise meat processing, and end unsafe animal transportation practices.
Furthermore, it promises to create thousands of jobs and increase Nigeria’s non-oil revenue.
The TSF also emphasised the strategic significance of President Tinubu’s decision to establish a Ministry of Livestock Development, led by Minister Idi Muktar Maiha.
The establishment of this ministry is viewed as a bold step towards elevating the sector from an underappreciated sub-sector to a major driver of economic growth.
Several targeted projects are currently underway under the minister’s leadership, such as collaborations with international partners, capacity-building programs, and value chain expansion initiatives.
“This demonstrates uncommon foresight and a strong political will to leverage Nigeria’s agricultural resources for inclusive growth and rural transformation,” the Forum stated.
The TSF praised the partnership between the federal and Gombe state governments, describing it as a model of cooperative governance capable of delivering long-term benefits across sectors.
They also urged other state governments, private investors, and Nigerian entrepreneurs to seize the opportunities offered by the livestock value chain.
“The sector has enormous untapped potential. “With the right investments, Nigeria has the potential to become a continental hub for meat processing, dairy production, leather manufacturing, and feed milling,” the statement read.
“President Tinubu’s policies have laid the groundwork; now it is up to stakeholders to align with this national vision.”
The forum concluded by reaffirming their belief in the current administration’s commitment to maximising Nigeria’s agricultural potential.
They praised President Tinubu’s determination to deliver tangible results, transforming promises into meaningful realities that will benefit ordinary Nigerians and propel the country forward.
“This intervention is a clear signal that President Tinubu is not only promising transformation, but is actively delivering it,” the statement concluded.
