Pro-Tinubu Groups Hail Economic Policies Amidst Rising Exports, International Endorsements
Two prominent pro-administration groups, the Tinubu Media Volunteers (TMV) and the Tinubu Media Support Group (TMSG), have praised President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, citing an increase in Nigerian exports and positive assessments from international organisations.
TMV reported a significant trade surplus of N3.43 trillion in the fourth quarter of 2024, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
The group attributed this positive trend to a decrease in imports and an increase in exports, which were prompted by policies such as the devaluation of the local currency.
They also projected a 15% inflation rate for 2025, down from 24% today, and 7% GDP growth.
TMV chairman Chukwudi Enekwechi and secretary Shedrach Sunday emphasised the growing international acceptance of Nigerian agricultural products such as cocoa, beans, cashew, and rubber, which will strengthen the economy and reduce reliance on oil revenue.
They argued that these protectionist policies, which do not rely on tariffs, benefit local industries and, ultimately, all Nigerians.
Separately, TMSG applauded a recent report from the British Policy Institute, Chatham House, which praised the Nigerian economy’s competitiveness under Tinubu’s reforms, describing them as “the best hope for sustainable growth that it has had in decades.”
While acknowledging Nigerians’ short-term challenges due to rising living costs following the removal of fuel subsidies,
TMSG, through chairman Emeka Nwankpa and secretary Dapo Okubanjo, shared Chatham House’s optimistic outlook.
They cited a similar positive assessment from Nigeria’s Independent Media and Policy Initiative (IMPI), which noted improvements in the trade balance, crude oil production, and foreign reserves.
TMSG urged the government to improve its local communication about these accomplishments, especially as the administration approaches its midterm.
Both organisations dismissed criticism of the administration’s policies as politically motivated or misguided.
