NDDC Commissions Major Road Projects In Abia State, Boosts Niger Delta Development

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has completed and commissioned two major road projects in Abia State, a significant step forward in the Federal Government’s efforts to develop the Niger Delta region.

Engr. Abubakar Momoh, Minister of Regional Development, inaugurated the projects, which include the 23.7-kilometer Ndoro-Ntalakwu Road network and adjoining roads in Ikwuano Local Government Area, as well as the reconstructed Isi-Court Olokoro-Amaoba Oboro Road in Umuahia South LGA.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by dignitaries such as Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti (represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr. Keleb Ajagba), NDDC Chairman Mr. Chiedu Ebie, NDDC Managing Director Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, and Senator Asuquo Ekpeyong, Chairman of the Senate Committee on NDDC.

Engr. Momoh praised the NDDC for its quick response to President Bola Tinubu’s directive to deliver impactful projects throughout the Niger Delta.

He cited the projects as evidence of the Federal Government’s commitment to regional development, and praised the NDDC Board and Management for their efficiency.

The Minister also urged the NDDC and Niger Delta state governors to continue working together, suggesting that other regional development agencies follow in the NDDC’s footsteps.

He specifically requested that the NDDC renovate a primary school located near the commissioning site.

Abia State Governor Otti, in a message delivered by his Chief of Staff, emphasised the transformative potential of the new roads, stating that they would significantly improve people’s livelihoods and stimulate economic growth within the communities.

He urged the communities to take ownership of the projects and ensure their long-term maintenance.

NDDC Chairman Ebie echoed the sentiments, emphasising that the projects reflect President Tinubu’s vision for the Niger Delta’s transformation. He emphasised the Commission’s commitment to collaborating with state governments to achieve sustainable development in the oil-producing regions.

NDDC Managing Director Ogbuku reiterated the Commission’s commitment to carrying out President Tinubu’s mandate to reshape the narrative in the Niger Delta.

He assured that future projects would continue to be driven by needs assessments, following the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Sir Victor Antai, the NDDC Executive Director of Projects, detailed the scope of work, highlighting significant infrastructure improvements such as asphaltic pavement, drainage systems, and the installation of solar streetlights to improve security and illumination.

He emphasised the beneficial effects on agriculture, trade, and commerce in the affected LGAs.

Eze Ogbnnaya Agwu, Traditional Ruler of Ikwuano, thanked the NDDC for the completed road network. Senator Ekpeyong also stated that the Senate Committee is committed to effective oversight of the NDDC’s operation to ensure that its mandate is fulfilled.

The event concluded with a collective affirmation of commitment to the Niger Delta’s continued development.
