Tinubu Urges South-South Leaders To Support NDDC’s Niger Delta Development
President Bola Tinubu has called on South-South zone leaders and Niger Delta stakeholders to support the Niger Delta Development Commission’s (NDDC) efforts to accelerate development in the oil-rich region.
This appeal was made during a meeting with the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, according to a press release signed by Seledi Thompson-Wakama, Director of Corporate Affairs.
President Tinubu praised the political leaders’ contributions while urging them to increase their support for regional development agencies.
He specifically praised Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, NDDC Managing Director, saying, “He is doing an excellent job and should be encouraged to do more. He is your son. “We are all proud of him.”
The President acknowledged the challenges confronting Nigeria’s democracy but emphasised his commitment to maintaining its integrity.
He emphasised the value of a broad perspective, selflessness, and a common vision for the region’s political and economic recovery.
President Tinubu used an analogy to emphasise the Niger Delta’s importance: “Yes, the Niger Delta is the goose that lays the golden egg. “We must care for the goose; otherwise, we will lose the golden egg.”
He addressed PANDEF’s concerns, particularly those regarding Rivers State, stating that he had been actively involved in resolving the ongoing crisis.
President Tinubu reiterated his commitment to community development, highlighting projects that have a direct positive impact on citizens’ lives.
He cited the ongoing coastal road project and plans for new ports in Niger Delta states, which are being built in collaboration with international companies, as key initiatives to drive economic growth.
King Alfred Diete-Spiff, Amanyanabo of Twon-Brass Kingdom and Co-Chairman of the PANDEF Board of Trustees, thanked the President for his commitment to the South-South region and the appointment of Niger Delta indigenes to key positions.
He expressed PANDEF’s unwavering support for the President’s administration.
